Night Registered Veterinary Nurse | Chester | £33,000 to £40,000 Pro Rata Plus Bonus
My independent client near Chester is seeking a confident Registered Veterinary Nurse to join its dedicated out of hours team within an RCVS accredited multidisciplinary referral hospital.
This is a rare opportunity for an RVN with a passion for emergency and critical care to manage a varied caseload with access to referral standard facilities, experienced ECC vets and full referral clinician support.
The hospital is independently owned and committed to providing exceptional, accessible and affordable emergency care. Its advanced equipment is available to the entire clinical team, allowing patients to receive the investigations and treatment they need throughout the night.
The role
• Permanent Night Registered Veterinary Nurse position
• 0.75 FTE, averaging 31 to 33 hours per week annually
• Seven nights on followed by 14 nights off
• Working hours from 7:30pm until 8:30am
• Salary from £33,000 to £40,000 pro rata, based on a 40 hour week

• Work alongside experienced ECC Veterinary Surgeons
• Full referral clinician support
• Approximately five to 15 inpatients per night
• No external call centre, with calls managed directly by the hospital team
• On site daytime administration support
You will help manage the full spectrum of emergency and inpatient care, including out of hours telephone calls, acute emergency presentations, first opinion and referral inpatients, and the admission and triage of routine and emergency referrals.
Clinical responsibilities
Your responsibilities will include:
• Monitoring and caring for critical inpatients
• Supporting complex anaesthesia
• Managing feeding tubes, catheters and transfusion medicine
• Triaging and admitting emergency patients
• Running in house laboratory tests and diagnostics
• Supporting Veterinary Surgeons with emergency procedures
• Communicating clearly and compassionately with clients
• Maintaining accurate and detailed clinical records
• Working closely with the referral and daytime teams
Facilities and clinical support
The hospital provides unrestricted access to an excellent range of referral standard equipment, including:
• CT scanning
• Endoscopy
• Ultrasound
• Extensive in house laboratory facilities
• Drip pumps and syringe drivers
• Blood transfusion products held on site
• Participation in the Blood Sharing Scheme
The team also aims to accommodate emergency home visits wherever possible.
About you
The successful candidate will be a qualified Registered Veterinary Nurse with a genuine interest in emergency and critical care.
You will:
• Be registered with the RCVS
• Be confident managing emergency and hospitalised patients
• Ideally have experience with complex anaesthesia and critical inpatient care
• Work calmly and effectively under pressure
• Provide exceptional standards of patient and client care
• Communicate empathetically with clients during emergency situations
• Maintain excellent clinical records
• Work collaboratively with the night, referral and daytime teams
• Be enthusiastic about contributing to a growing independent hospital
